Risky Financial Investment?

I have been trying to read everything I can right now about my investments. I am going to continue to invest even though the market does not look all that stable but I assume that it will come back up and it will be better for my money in the long run if I keep stashing away money in investments. One area that I am not too sure about though is spread betting. I have heard the term and I would really like to get some more information before I put away a large amount of money. I want to see how risky a situation it can be.
