Glass Doorknobs – How To Get Them For your Home

February 14th, 2010 by admin

I once lived in a pretty cheap bungalow-style house that happened to have all of its original door knobs. Against a background of inexpensive rental-property paint, my glass door handles stood out like jewels.

Visitors never appeared to spot the grimy linoleum, the nineteen-seventies rework attempt, or the cranky plumbing. I love to believe the light refracting thru my pretty glass door knobs blinded them. Brass, bronze and other metals with baroque designs then became the more popular choice until WW2.

With the war, the scarceness of metals turned the trend back towards glass door knobs. Almost all of the first antique glass doorhandles today come from the post-World War II building boom.
