VNS epilepsy treatment for children

January 25th, 2012 by admin

Vagus Nerve Stimulation is another epilepsy treatment for children. This treatment is good for children who are 12 years old and above, although, there are some younger children who have used it already. In this treatment, a small device that looks like a pacemaker, called the stimulator, is implanted under the skin, usually in the chest and is attached to the wire connected around the neck, where the vagus nerve can be found. The device will then send electrodes to the wire up to the vagus nerve and stimulates it to stop the activity in the brain that has caused seizures.
