Elevators are Safer Than Cars
March 2nd, 2010 by admin
The second full week of November is National Elevator Safety Week to educate the public regarding the safety of elevators. Elevators are twenty times safer than cars. Only twenty six people a year die in an elevator accident compared to car accidents that claim the life of 26 people every five hours. Only one elevator cab in history experienced a free fall where the cable snapped. That was in 1945 when a woman was riding in an elevator in the Empire State Building in New York City, New York. It fell from the 75th floor but the woman survived. The one thousand feet of cable that snapped from the accident cushioned the fall.
